- Short circuit or open circuit in the wiring connected to the sensor reference voltage circuit
- Faulty sensor that is connected to the sensor reference voltage circuit
- Problem with the power supply or ground connection to the sensor reference voltage circuit
- Malfunctioning Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
