Lost Communication With Body Control Module A
What it means
U0141 means the network has lost communication with the body control module (BCM), which runs much of the vehicle's body electronics — lighting, locks, wipers, and more. Losing it can leave several features dead or erratic, and because the BCM often ties into the immobilizer, some vehicles won't start. The usual cause is a power/ground or fuse problem, damaged wiring or a connector, a bus fault, or a failed BCM.
Can I keep driving? Often driveable, but body features like lights, locks, and wipers may misbehave, and on vehicles where the BCM handles the immobilizer the engine may not start — diagnose promptly.

Figures reflect only diagnostic scans recorded through our own apps and tools. Cars are typically scanned because a symptom or warning light prompted it, so these counts describe our scan records — not the incidence of faults in any model, and not the quality, reliability, or safety of any vehicle. Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Multiple body features dead or erratic (interior/exterior lights, locks, wipers)
- Warning lights and message-center errors
- Body control module unresponsive when scanned
- No-crank or no-start on some vehicles
Common causes
Most likely first
- Poor power, ground, or a blown fuse at the BCMLikely
- Wiring or connector fault at the BCMCommon
- CAN bus fault interrupting the moduleCommon
- Failed body control moduleLess often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Scan all modules and confirm the BCM is offline via companion U-codes.
- Check BCM power, grounds, and related fuses first.
- Inspect the BCM connectors and bus wiring for damage or corrosion.
- Confirm bus continuity to the module.
- Repair the wiring or replace and program the BCM, then clear codes and retest.
