A Camshaft Profile Actuator A Control Circuit/Open Bank 2
What it means
P001D means the ECM has detected an open (broken) circuit in the camshaft profile control actuator on bank 2 — the device that switches the engine between low- and high-lift cam profiles. With the actuator circuit open, the cam profile can't change on command, so the engine may lose top-end power and run roughly, though it will normally still start and drive.
Can I keep driving? Usually driveable, but the engine may lose high-rpm power and run rough; get it checked before longer trips.
Real-world scan data
Figures reflect only diagnostic scans recorded through our own apps and tools. Cars are typically scanned because a symptom or warning light prompted it, so these counts describe our scan records — not the incidence of faults in any model, and not the quality, reliability, or safety of any vehicle. Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Check-engine light on
- Reduced power, especially at higher rpm when the cam profile should switch
- Rough running or unstable idle
- Noticeably weaker acceleration
Common causes
Most likely first
- Open circuit in the camshaft profile control actuator wiringLikely
- Corroded or disconnected actuator/solenoid connectorCommon
- Failed camshaft profile control actuator or oil control valve on bank 2Common
- Failed ECM driver (least likely)Less often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Read freeze-frame data, then inspect the bank 2 profile actuator connector and harness for an open or corrosion.
- Measure the actuator/solenoid resistance and check its supply and ground against spec.
- Confirm the ECM is commanding the actuator; repair the open circuit or replace the actuator as indicated.
- Only after the circuit and actuator check out, suspect the ECM. Clear and re-test.
