P010C

Mass or Volume Air Flow Sensor B Circuit Low

Fuel & air metering Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P010C means the "B" mass air flow sensor circuit is reading an abnormally low signal — typically a wiring short to ground, an open circuit, or a failed sensor. The MAF tells the ECM how much air the engine is drawing, so a bad low reading can throw off fueling and cause hesitation, stalling, or a drop into limp mode.

High

Can I keep driving? You can usually still drive, but expect hesitation, stalling, or a drop into limp mode; fix it before it strands you.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Mass air flow sensor B signal circuit shorted to ground or wiring open
  2. Faulty mass air flow sensor
  3. Corroded or loose connector at the MAF sensor
  4. Intake air leak affecting the sensor reading
  5. Faulty ECM/PCM (rare)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data and inspect the MAF connector and wiring for shorts, opens, or corrosion.
  2. Check the sensor's signal voltage against the manufacturer's spec on a scan tool.
  3. Inspect for intake leaks and confirm a clean, correctly seated air filter.
  4. Clean or replace the MAF sensor if it reads out of range; repair the wiring.
  5. Clear and retest; consider the ECM only as a last resort.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P010C?+
It's drivable but not ideal — because the MAF is a main fueling input, the engine may hesitate, stall, or enter limp mode. Fix it soon to avoid being stranded.
Can I just clear P010C?+
It returns quickly. A low MAF signal usually means a wiring or sensor fault that has to be repaired before the code stays off.
