P0047

Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control A Circuit Low

Turbo / boost control Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P0047 means the ECM detected a low-voltage (short-to-ground or open) condition in the "A" boost control circuit. This circuit drives the wastegate/boost control solenoid, so a fault limits boost and usually triggers reduced-power mode. The cause is electrical — solenoid, connector, or wiring — not a misfire, despite how some databases label it.

High

Can I keep driving? Yes, with reduced power — a boost-control circuit fault often triggers reduced-power or limp mode; drive gently until repaired.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Short-to-ground or open (low-voltage fault) in the boost control solenoid circuit
  2. Failed turbo wastegate / boost control solenoid
  3. Corroded or loose electrical connectors
  4. Damaged wiring in the control circuit
  5. ECM control-circuit driver fault

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data to confirm the operating conditions.
  2. Inspect the boost control solenoid connector and wiring for shorts-to-ground or opens.
  3. Measure the solenoid resistance against spec.
  4. Verify power and ground at the solenoid connector.
  5. Replace the boost control solenoid if faulty; suspect the ECM only after wiring is verified.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P0047?+
You can drive gently, but boost is limited and the car may be in limp mode. Repair it soon so you're not stuck with reduced power.
Can I just clear P0047?+
It returns until the low-voltage circuit fault or the solenoid is repaired.
