P2047

Reductant Injection Valve Circuit/Open Bank 1 Unit 1

Diesel SCR emissions Generic OBD-II Medium

What it means

P2047 is a diesel emissions code meaning the control circuit for the reductant (DEF/urea) injection valve on bank 1, unit 1 is open. That injector meters diesel exhaust fluid into the SCR system to cut NOx. The engine still starts and runs, but with the injector dead the emissions system can raise a warning and eventually reduce power. The usual cause is open wiring or a failed injector.

Medium

Can I keep driving? The engine still starts and drives, but a dead DEF injector raises NOx and the emissions system can force reduced power or a limp mode — repair it before it derates.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Open in the reductant (DEF) injector wiring or connector
  2. Failed reductant injection valve (DEF injector)
  3. Poor or corroded electrical connection at the injector
  4. Faulty DEF/emissions control module or PCM

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data to confirm the open-circuit fault on bank 1 unit 1.
  2. Inspect the injector wiring and connector for opens, chafing, or corrosion.
  3. Measure the injector coil resistance against spec.
  4. Replace the reductant injection valve if the circuit is open internally.
  5. Verify DEF dosing per the manufacturer procedure, then clear and re-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P2047?+
Short-term yes, but the DEF system may derate power, and you'll fail emissions, so repair it soon.
Can I just clear P2047?+
It returns until the open circuit or injector is repaired, and any derate countdown can resume.
