What it means
P257E means the ECM or body module detected low voltage (a short-to-ground or open) on the engine hood switch circuit. The hood switch senses whether the hood is open or closed and feeds the alarm and, on some cars, the active-hood pedestrian-protection system. It does not affect how the engine runs.
