Low Pressure Fuel System Pressure - Too High
What it means
P008B means the ECM measured higher-than-expected pressure in the low-pressure (lift-pump) side of the fuel system. That side feeds the high-pressure pump or injectors, and pressure that runs too high can upset fueling — making the engine run rich, lose power, or stall. The cause is often a faulty pressure sensor, a restricted return line, or a pump/regulator commanding too much pressure.
Can I keep driving? Limited — excess low-side fuel pressure can make the engine run rich, lose power, or stall. It may keep running, but have it diagnosed before driving far.
Real-world scan data
Figures reflect only diagnostic scans recorded through our own apps and tools. Cars are typically scanned because a symptom or warning light prompted it, so these counts describe our scan records — not the incidence of faults in any model, and not the quality, reliability, or safety of any vehicle. Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Check-engine light on
- Power loss or hesitation
- Rich running (fuel smell, black smoke) or poor economy
- Rough running or stalling
Common causes
Most likely first
- Faulty low-side fuel pressure sensor reading highLikely
- Restricted or kinked fuel return line raising system pressureCommon
- Fuel pump control module or lift pump commanding too much pressureCommon
- Faulty fuel pressure regulator on the low-pressure sideLess often
- Wiring or connector fault on the pressure sensor circuitLess often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Read freeze-frame data and compare the sensor's reported pressure to a mechanical gauge on the fuel rail.
- If the gauge disagrees with the sensor, suspect the sensor or its wiring; if it agrees, the pressure really is high.
- Inspect the fuel return line for kinks, restriction, or blockage.
- Check fuel pump / control module operation and the pressure regulator.
- Repair or replace the confirmed faulty component, then clear and road-test.
