What you'll notice
- Check if the shift lock solenoid is functioning properly and replace if necessary
- Inspect the shift linkage for any obstructions or damage and repair or replace as needed
- Check if the transmission range sensor is faulty and replace if necessary
- Ensure that the transmission control module is functioning correctly and reprogram if needed

- Faulty transmission shift solenoid
- Broken or worn out shift linkage
- Malfunctioning transmission control module
- Internal transmission damage
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Difficulty shifting gears, especially when trying to shift into Drive mode
- Delayed engagement or harsh shifting when moving from Park to Drive
- Vehicle may remain in high RPMs even at idle
- The transmission may slip or jerk during acceleration or deceleration
- Burning smell or excess heat coming from the transmission area
