P023F

Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit/Open

Fuel delivery Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P023F means the ECM has detected an open (broken) circuit in the fuel pump's secondary control wiring. If the circuit is open the pump can't be switched on, so the engine may crank without starting or stall and fail to restart. A blown fuse, broken wire, or failed relay in the pump control circuit is the typical cause.

High

Can I keep driving? Often not drivable — an open pump circuit can stop fuel delivery entirely, causing stalling or a no-start. Have it fixed before relying on the car.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Blown fuel-pump fuse
  2. Open or broken wiring in the fuel-pump control circuit
  3. Failed fuel-pump relay
  4. Faulty fuel-pump (driver/control) module
  5. Internal ECM fault (rare)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data, then check the fuel-pump fuse and replace if blown (and find why it blew).
  2. Inspect the pump control wiring and connectors for opens, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
  3. Test the fuel-pump relay and confirm it receives its control signal.
  4. Verify voltage reaches the pump when commanded on; repair the open in the circuit.
  5. Suspect the pump control module or ECM only after fuse, wiring, and relay are confirmed good.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P023F?+
No — an open pump circuit can cut fuel delivery and leave you stranded. Diagnose and repair it before depending on the vehicle.
Can I just clear P023F?+
Clearing won't restore fuel delivery. If the circuit is open the pump won't run, so the fault and the driveability problem return immediately.
