P245E
Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor B Circuit
Diesel particulate filter (DPF)
Generic OBD-II
Medium
What it means
P245E sets when the engine computer sees a problem in the circuit of the "B" particulate-filter (DPF) pressure sensor. That sensor measures exhaust pressure across the filter so the computer knows when to run a regeneration burn-off. With a bad signal, regeneration can be mistimed or skipped, so the filter can slowly clog even though the engine still runs.
Medium
Can I keep driving? Usually driveable short-term, but don't ignore it — a faulty DPF pressure signal can disrupt regeneration and, over time, clog the filter and cut power.
Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Check-engine light on
- Reduced power or limp mode if regeneration is affected
- More frequent, longer, or failed DPF regeneration cycles
- Often no obvious driving symptom at first
Common causes
Most likely first
- Faulty particulate-filter differential-pressure sensor (the 'B' sensor)Likely
- Open, shorted, or chafed wiring at the sensorCommon
- Poor or corroded connector/electrical connectionCommon
- Blocked, cracked, or disconnected pressure sample hoses to the sensorLess often
- Less commonly, a failing ECM/PCMLess often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Read freeze-frame data and confirm which sensor is the 'B' pressure sensor on your vehicle.
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring for damage, heat, or corrosion.
- Check the pressure sample hoses for soot blockage, splits, or a loose fit.
- Compare the live pressure reading to the expected/known-good value.
- Replace the DPF pressure sensor if it reads out of spec, then clear and retest.
FAQ
Quick answers
Is it safe to drive with P245E?+
For short trips usually, but the ECM relies on this sensor to manage soot regeneration. Left unfixed it can lead to a clogged filter, forced power reduction, and a costly repair.
Can I just clear P245E?+
You can, but if the sensor or its wiring is faulty the code returns. Fix the circuit or sensor first so DPF regeneration works correctly.
