What it means

P0112 means the intake air temperature sensor signal is reading low voltage, which the ECM interprets as implausibly hot intake air. It's almost always an electrical fault — a shorted signal wire or a failed sensor — rather than a real air-temperature problem. The effect on drivability is usually minor.

Work through it in order

Read the live intake-air temperature value — P0112 usually shows an implausibly high or pegged reading.
Inspect the sensor connector and wiring for a short to ground, corrosion, or chafing.
Unplug the sensor and see if the reading swings the opposite way; back-probe the signal and ground circuits.
Replace the IAT sensor (often built into the MAF on many cars) if the wiring checks out, then clear and re-test.
Only suspect the ECM after the sensor and wiring are confirmed good.
